OAA Lymphedema Management Program
The Lymphedema Management Program at OAA offers a unique, holistic approach to the treatment of lymphedema.
Defined as an abnormal swelling of a body part due to an accumulation of protein-rich lymphatic fluid, lymphedema can be diagnosed at birth or following an injury, illness, or disease. Many patients who have experienced trauma or surgery can have swelling that requires treatment. Other patients, including those who have been diagnosed with any type of cancer in which lymph nodes have been removed or destroyed by radiation, are at high risk for developing lymphedema.

Study Reports Link Between Vitamin D Deficiency, Muscle Injuries in NFL Players
A study presented at the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine’s (AOSSM) Annual Meeting in San Diego last week suggests that vitamin D deficiency may increase the chance of muscle injuries in athletes, specifically National Football League (NFL) football players.

"There are millions of COPD patients who use long-term inhaled corticosteroids in the United States and millions more across the world," says Sonal Singh, M.D., M.P.H., an assistant professor of general internal medicine at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and the senior author of the study published online in the journal Thorax. "The number of people who are getting fractures because of these medications is quite large."
