Summary:
To ensure patient and physician needs are met by providing Patient Care Excellence. 
 

Essential Functions:
  • Escort Patient to exam room and prepare for physical evaluation by obtaining vital signs.
  • Conduct patient interview to obtain medical history, including past medical, surgical and family history, allergies, review medications and present condition.
  • Verify all paperwork is complete, review all systems in EMR, record all changes.
  • Review chart for completeness and accuracy by ensuring all pertinent lab reports and diagnostics are available and last physician note is in chart.
  • Display MRI films or other studies brought by patient for office visit.
  • Triage patient phone calls and patient cases in EMR.
  • Review lab results in EMR, compare to prior lab studies, and communicate current results to physician. Advise patient as per physician order.
  • Check Rheumatology mailbox daily. Review with physician.
  • Assist physician with procedures.
  • Assist patients with mobility. Provide wheelchair and help patient to next area as needed.
  • Return un-needed diagnostic studies to patient and record in EMR.
  • Prepare injections for physician.
  • Prepare specimens to send to lab.
  • Document all injections, prescriptions, casts/splints, DME's dispensed in EMR.
  • Provide patient education as needed.
  • Management of all Infusion and Osteoporosis medication including insurance verification/authorization, orders, labs, appointments and communication with outpatient infusion centers for coordination of care.
  • Review physician schedules/templates in EMR, make any necessary changes. Communicate changes to Administration and managers.
  • Prepare exam rooms. Clean and disinfect any contaminated counters or exam tables.
  • Inventory and restock work areas.
  • Dispose of bio-hazardous waste.
  • Act as patient / physician liaison by communicating patient information in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Place x-ray orders in EMR.
  • Ensure patient and personal safety while in office.
  • Follow blood borne pathogen policy.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all patient information and comply with HIPAA regulations.
  • Attend in-house continuing education seminars offered to staff.
  • Record all needed information into EMR.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Qualifications:
  • Formal training as a Medical Assistant; one to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant Program; holds a current certification
  • Current CPR/AED Certification
  • Required Certifications:
    • Act 34 PA Criminal Background.
    • Act 151 PA Child Abuse History.
    • Act 114 FBI Cogent Clearance Fingerprinting.
  • Computer experience
  • Customer service skills
  • Knowledge of third-party insurance
  • Previous medical office experience including surgical and office scheduling and patient education
  • Excellent verbal communications skills
  • Detail oriented
  • Team player
  • Rheumatology experience required
  • Bi-Lingual/Spanish skills for interpreting a plus
