April 01, 2018

Whether it is on the local or national level, Dr. Laura Dunne of OAA’s Sports Medicine Institute loves being involved with the sport of hockey. She has had the privilege of serving as a Team Physician for USA Hockey on an ongoing basis. In fact, some of the athletes she has cared for at USA Hockey’s Sled Development Camps over the years recently represented the United States in the 2018 The Paralympic Winter Games in PyeongChang, South Korea.

When you ask Dr. Dunne about her involvement with USA Hockey, she is quick to respond with why she enjoys volunteering her time and being involved with the organization. “The opportunity to watch and help the best athletes in their sport is amazing. These athletes are literally the best in the world, and it takes a lot to get there and even more to stay there. I could really go on and on, but to sit in the USA Hockey pride lecture and hear stories and motivation from players that have already won gold medals, or to see players who lost a limb serving our country now serving in a different capacity… it just can’t be put into words. The smiles, the hard work, the pranks, the friendship, the teamwork; this and so much more makes it a great experience that I am honored to be a part of,” Dr. Dunne shared.

While Team USA was representing the United States at the Paralympic Winter Games in South Korea, Dr. Dunne was fortunate enough to serve as Team Physician for USA Hockey’s Development Sled Hockey Team as they were busy preparing future Paralympians at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

The U.S. Olympic Complex in Colorado Springs is the flagship-training center for the U.S. Olympic Committee and the Olympic Training Center programs. The Colorado Springs Olympic Training Centeris able to provide housing, dining, training facilities, recreational facilities and other services for more than 500 athletes and coaches at one time on the complex.
